Jozani Park

Jozani Park with an area of 50 square kilometers, is the only national park in Zanzibar which is the habitat of a species of red colobus monkey an endangered one. It is a rain forest monkey which is also known as Kirk's red colobus. It exists only in Zanzibar. The evolution has more or less eliminated their opposable thumbs but they have a long tail which is used for balance and posture purposes. While they are wild, they are very social and they have got used to humans and can often be observed playing and grooming and caring for their young during the visit.
There are also more than 50 species of butterflies and 40 species of birds in this park. Some butterflies are the size of a human palm. The biodiversity of this park is magnificent. The experience of walking through The Mangroves when the tide is low, is also very impressive.
